Getting Stains Off of Glass

Rinse The Glass Off With A Hose

Before you begin cleaning, move your hand gently over the surface of the glass to make sure that there are not any specks of sand or dirt on the glass that will cause the glass to be scratched during washing. If so, use a hose to rinse the grits of sand or dirt off the face of the glass.

Caution: Before you use a hose to rinse off windows and doors, do not use a great amount of water pressure.

Aim the hose on a downward angle. If you should happen to be lower than the windows and doors, then use the hose in a way to duplicate as if it were pouring down rain. A lot of doors and windows aren't realistically fabricated to have water aimed at them in a upward angle.

Be careful if you use a pressure washer to rinse glass systems. You might hurt the gaskets and the sealants used to keep the water from leaking through these products. Now that you have rinsed off the particles on the surface of the glass, you can proceed to wash the glass without damaging it.

Removing Stains From Glass

Glass can get blemished from a variety of different substances. Almost all stains on glass are water stains, like sprinkler water, rain water, water stains on glass table tops from glasses, shower water on a tub/shower enclosure, etc. These stains usually can't be cleaned off by regular cleansers, so I'm going to tell you how you can easily remove most stains in glass and it's only going to cost you about .70. When you go to the grocery store go to where they sell detergents and buy a can of Bar Keepers Friend. This stuff is amazing.

I've been to customers homes to look at the blemishes on their glass and they've explained to me that they used multible cleaners to remove the stains, but to no avail have had any accomplishment. So I would bring out the Bar Keepers Friend and remove the stain in a couple of minutes. I'm not saying that this cleanser will get rid of every blemish that is on glass, but for .70 a can it's sure worth a try.

How To Go About Using Bar Keepers Friend On Glass

Just to let you know is that this cleaner is a light abrasive cleanser. If you rub the the stain for too long of a of time or you rub the surface of the glass with too much pressure, you could etch the glass. Don't worry though, it does take some effort to scratch the glass with this cleaning agent. It shouldn't take too much pressure or a long time to remove a blemish from the surface of the glass.

Take a sheet of paper towel or a terry wash cloth and fold it up to about a 3" - 4" square. Wet the rag with water and squeeze the excess water out, just so that it is not dripping wet. Then your going to sprinkle some cleanser on the wash cloth and pat the Bar Keepers Friend down with your finger until the cleanser forms a paste.

Take the rag with the cleanser and apply it to the stain and start rubbing with a easy amount of pressure, either by moving the paper towel up and down, side to side or in a circular motion for about 5 - 10 times. Remember not to apply too much pressure on the wash cloth. Then wash off the area and look to see if the stain has been removed, if not, repeat the process. Keep an eye on the area that you are cleaning, looking out for possible scratch marks from the cleaning agent.

Places You Can Use Bar Keepers Friend

I use this cleanser on my automobile glass to get rid of water stains and bugs. It makes your glass look like new again. It works great on tub/shower enclosure glass and metal as well. Bar Keepers Friend will clean a lot of other surfaces as well.

Another one of the products I like to work with is RainX

Once you clean the glass, apply RainX to help keep your glass from staining again. Water just glides off the face of the glass. This stuff works wonders on tub/shower enclosures, it'll make life easier than trying to clean calcium and lime that is on the surface of the glass. RainX works great on your car windows for enhanced visibility when traveling in a heavy storm.

How To Clean Glass With Razor Blades

If you are going to use a razor blade on glass, use a double edge blade. Spray the surface with glass cleaner. When you apply the razor blade to the face of the glass and start to scrape, position the blade so that it is leaning on an angle and it is as flat to the face of the glass as you can.

Make sure that you keep the surface of the glass moist with glass cleaner. Make sure you use the razor blade on one side. Never flip it over, it might cause you to put scratches on the glass. If you should drop it or hit the edge of the blade against something, look at the edge of the razor blade for damage before applying to the surface of the glass again.
